Jerry Kuhn, LMHC, LPC-MHSP
Many people who begin therapy with me are used to carrying a lot on their own.
They are often the people others depend on—the professionals, caregivers, veterans, parents, and helpers who keep showing up, meeting responsibilities, and doing what needs to be done. From the outside, they may appear to have everything together. Internally, they may be struggling with anxiety, stress, self-doubt, difficult life experiences, grief, or the feeling that life has become harder than it used to be.
Reaching out for support isn't always easy, especially when you've spent years handling things yourself. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and practical environment where you can speak openly, gain clarity, and begin making meaningful changes.
I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, grief, stress, relationship concerns, and other challenges that can affect emotional well-being and quality of life. Whether you're navigating a difficult season, feeling stuck, or simply looking for a different path forward, counseling can help.
Experience Rooted in Service
Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than two decades serving in the United States Navy and later worked in corporate leadership and training. Throughout those experiences, I learned that people are often carrying far more than others realize.
After retiring from the military and building a successful career in leadership, I felt called to help people in a different way. That decision led me back to school to earn my Master's degree in Counseling and Psychology and ultimately establish Lemon Bay Mental Wellness Center.
Today, I draw from both my professional training and life experience to help clients navigate anxiety, trauma, major life transitions, and the challenges that come with being human. I believe meaningful growth happens when people feel heard, respected, and supported—not judged.
My Approach
My counseling style is compassionate, direct, and collaborative.
I utilize evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness-based strategies, and trauma-informed counseling. I am also trained in the Cortina Method for Trauma Resolution, which is designed to help individuals process traumatic experiences without having to repeatedly relive painful memories.
Therapy isn't about fixing something that's broken. It's about understanding what is keeping you stuck, building on your strengths, and creating a path forward that feels healthier and more fulfilling.
Working Through Trauma and Life's Challenges
Trauma doesn't always come from a single event. Sometimes it develops through years of difficult experiences, loss, chronic stress, relationship challenges, or circumstances that leave lasting emotional wounds.
Many clients come to therapy because they feel overwhelmed, disconnected, emotionally exhausted, or trapped in patterns they no longer want to repeat. Together, we work to better understand those patterns, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful change.
As a Navy veteran, I also enjoy working with veterans navigating anxiety, life transitions, stress, and experiences connected to military service. Lemon Bay Mental Wellness Center proudly serves veterans and works with VA Community Care referrals.
Taking the First Step
Seeking counseling is a sign of strength, not weakness.
If you're ready to better understand what you're experiencing, develop healthier ways of coping, and move toward the life you want to live, I would be honored to be part of that journey.
